Overview
When fresh-faced Elliot lands an exciting job for renowned artist, icon and provocateur Erika Tracy, his fantasies come true as Erika taps him to become her sexual muse. But Elliot soon finds himself out of his depth as Erika takes him on a journey more profound than he ever could have imagined, into a world of sex, obsession, power, betrayal and murder.
I was blown away by the layers that are in this movie. While the title is certainly titillating (and a huge mistake, I think), the contrast in how the various characters view sex is extremely interesting. But for me, the real value in this movie is in the relationships. Much of the movie is about insecurity and how that affects relationships and sex. I thought Olive Wilde was pitch-perfect in a difficult role – after all, that character could have easily been a caricature of a dominant woman. I can’t think of another film quite like it, and I think the negative reviews are by people who didn’t want to look beyond the title.
