Overview
In 2006, To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen sets out to make television history. When a high stakes operation goes fatally wrong, his veneered dream of fame curdles into a nightmare of performative justice.
This is such an odd movie, and an odd movie to review. Full disclosure: I was a supporter of the show and its goal. It didn’t matter to me if they were also doing it to make money. If someone wants to feed the poor AND become rich and famous doing it, I am ok with it. Of course, the end doesn’t justify the mean, and I think that is a major theme.
There is a lot of use of dark backgrounds contrasted by flashing lights – this gifts it the effect of being a stoner dramedy. I think what I found most interesting about the film was what the effect of the operation had on the people executing it as well as those caught by it. I am also bewildered as to why Pattinson took this role to begin with.
