Overview
Gilbert has to care for his brother Arnie and his obese mother, which gets in the way when love walks into his life.
I thought this was one of the better dramas that I have seen in a long, long time. The story is a simple one – all of the characters are stuck in a place where they don’t want to be. They’re all looking for their liberation. Do they find it? I know that DiCaprio got a lot of credit for his portrayal of a disabled boy and much of the credit was deserved. I know I’ve written about this before (here) but I have never been impressed by an actor playing this character. Depp was by far the best thing to happen to this film, although for the first time in a long time I could stomach Juliette Lewis in a role. Finally, a movie without flash or special effects. Just a good story, that’s all I ask.
