I thought the most interesting aspect of this film was how “buddy movies” used to be. It seems as though the modern image of the buddy movie (and comedies in genera) is something like Chris Tucker (cringing) tossing out one liners about his buddy. The movie just couldn’t stand on its own merits. Instead, the audience has to be treated like children that can’t wait long for the next punchline.

The movie stars Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. De Niro has been offered a sizable reward to capture Grodin and bring him across country. While the movie doesn’t offer a ton of laughs, their relationship is actually extremely interesting and the storyline is crisp. It was well worth a watch for their interaction alone.

This movie may be another example of how the rottentomatoes.com ratings can be misleading. As you can see, the rating of 100% means that every critic thought it was worthwhile. I think that this is because the movie is likeable in every aspect but by no means a classic.
