This is a movie about a couple whose marriage is off the tracks to a degree that neither partner seems to agree on.  We’ve seen this movie before (of course) but what’s sets this apart is that you get a real feeling for the emotional state of each partner through interactions with their son.  I think what I found most interesting is that while the issues in their marriage seemed to be very one-sided about halfway through the film I came to realize that Benning’s character seemed to be more abstract than literal.  Despite her flaws I felt compassion for the one left behind.  Both she and Nighy were as stellar as you would expect them to be.
