Overview
The story of best friends Barb and Star, who leave their small midwestern town for the first time to go on vacation in Vista Del Mar, Florida, where they soon find themselves tangled up in adventure, love, and a villain’s evil plot to kill everyone in town.
Full disclosure – I am a huge Kristen Wiig fan. I’ve loved her in comedies such as The Skeleton Twins and dramas such as Welcome to Me (both very, very underrated). I also thought that Bridesmaids was waaaaaaaay overrated.
I hated this movie. This is another classic case of a movie having a fairly high Rotten Tomatoes rating (80% at the time of this review) but that number not telling the real story. The comments in the reviews are pretty universal – there’s some good stuff in here but there is also a lot wrong with it. The odd thing about this movie is that it is essentially a parody of other parodies. And I loved those parodies – Austin Powers, Airplane, etc. This film felt like one long SNL skit where they just threw stuff up against the wall hoping it would stick. By the end it felt like a bad 70’s spy movie where the cheese was heavy and you’re just hoping for the ending.
