Overview
Following the launch of her new novel, 35-year-old writer Kate Conklin is invited to speak at her alma mater by her mentor and former professor. After accepting the invitation, Kate finds herself deeply enmeshed in the lives of an eccentric group of college students.
I suppose the premise is good enough – a struggling writer is invited to her alma mater to give a talk about her new book. The cast is likeable enough – I’ve always liked Jacobs and I’ve been a fan of Clement going back to his days in Flight of the Concords. The movie started to lose me when the group went on their “mission” to get to the resolution. It just felt very misplaced in this movie, especially when you consider the movie’s final couple of scenes. The film is largely cliched and there isn’t anything here that you haven’t seen done much better in other movies.
