Overview
Ned Kendall is asked to return to the remote and isolated family home by his sister, to say goodbye to his father who is dying. Ned also brings his young aspiring actress fiancee who struggles with the isolation. When home he starts having memories of his childhood many involving his beautiful twin sister and his older brother. These memories awaken long-buried secrets from the family's past.
There are essentially two movies at play here – one unfolding in real time and one that happened twenty years ago but it still being felt in present time. Sometimes I think movies that slowly reveal something that happened in the past get a little more credit than they deserve as there is some low-hanging intrigue for the audience. That said, the story is pretty good and the acting is excellent. I think maybe more could have been done to explore how the events of the past affected the characters in the present.
