Overview
When a devastating attack shatters Mark Hogancamp and wipes away all memories, no one expected recovery. Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town named Marwen where he can heal and be heroic. As he builds an astonishing art installation — a testament to the most powerful women he knows — through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one.
This is one of those times where it is tough to give a a rating to a movie. After all, in this movie there is a LOT to like. First and foremost, the acting is superb. I have long been a fan of Carrell in dramatic roles and I’ve never seen him more vulnerable than he is in this role. And the supporting actors – they are all superb and do a great job delivering a movie that is full of love and empathy. That said, at times it isn’t a great watch. I think that what they did with the live-action dolls was commendable… at times (especially the last sequence) they went on for too long.
