Overview
In 1983 Owl, North Dakota, the lives of three residents – elderly Horace, who spends his afternoons reminiscing in the local coffee shop; teenage Mitch, depressed backup quarterback star player-power-horse; and newly appointed high school English teacher Julia – along with those of the town's other residents, are upended by a historic whiteout blizzard.
I get the mixed reviews of this movie. After all, it is a slice-of-life drama set over the course of a few days in a rural town. That said, I really enjoyed it. I thought that the performances were excellent and I really enjoyed how they brought the story to a close in the final scenese (as an introvert, Ed Harris’ speech really hit home). Lily Rabe was excellent as always – it was the first time that I have seen her in something that suited her since Miss Stevens.
