Overview
In the fall of 1963, Eddie Birdlace is an 18-year-old Marine Corps volunteer who is about to ship out with three of his buddies for a tour of duty in Vietnam. Planning a massive blowout for their last night in San Francisco, Eddie, his buddies, and a number of other Marines set up a contest they call a "dogfight."
When I was in college, I dated a girl that was…. well… better than me. She was smarter, more mature, and if I am being honest, much better looking. But she saw something in me, even though her friends told her that she was crazy. This movie reminded me quite a bit of that time. This movie is all about Lili Taylor. Her character sees something in the boorish character played by River Phoenix, and her patience and sweetness carry the movie. I can think of a handful of other movies like this
