Overview
On a weekend backpacking trip in the Catskills, 17-year-old Sam contends with the competing egos of her father and his oldest friend.
This is a rather quiet movie about the dynamics of relationships. Some of it is spoken, but much of it isn’t. There is a lot in this movie, if you’re willing to do a little work. I should note that the movie works largely because of the talent of the lead. When I first saw Jennifer Lawrence in Winter’s Bone, I knew immediately that she had a bright future. I felt the same way after watching this movie.
Also, I don’t know that everyone got the dilemma that was presented in the final scenes. The young lady had a decision to make about what had happened the night before, and I think her decision really changed the feel of the movie.
