Jim Jarmusch has a minor role in this, and I can’t help but wonder if this movie was an inspiration for the far superior Broken Flowers.   In this movie, a musician goes on a quest to find an elusive guitar maker in the hopes that one of his guitars can help his band achieve success.   It is a fools errand, and we pretty much know how that is going to turn out.  In between, there is a series of mini adventures with famous musicians and characters played by actors who would go on bigger things.
