While this movie’s existence isn’t as indefensible as Jon Hamm’s turn as Fletch, it isn’t far off.  This movie is as unnecessary as it was the minute that you heard of its existence.  I was a big fan of the originals, but even those movies had become formulaic.  This movie feels like a community theater decided to make their own version of Naked Gun.   The film is at its worse when they are directly ripping off a bit from the original – it is in these moments (and there are many) where you realize that there will never be another Leslie Nielsen.  The film is at its best when it isn’t regurgitating old bits.   And I think that is why people think that movies like this are even remotely funny – nostalgia.
