This is a movie that tries hard to have an intelligent conversation about belief.   In a weird kind of way, that is its Achilles heel.  It bends over backwards to try to be fair to both sides, but in the end, it is pretty messy.   I know nothing about this film, but if I had to guess, I would think that it it was written by a Christian that was trying to show the hypocrisy that often (usually) permeates religious belief.  I fully applaud this, but it actually went too far and the Christians ended up being cartoonish.   The atheist was actually treated much better, although the representation of that side of the equation was terribly skewed.  For example, at one point the atheist says “The bible doesn’t have the market cornered when it comes to truths”.   Huh?  You’re an atheist because you reject the stories.   This is why I think that this movie was written by a Christian – they often believe that atheists aren’t Christians because they hate god or crap like that.   This is a faulty belief because for one to hate the Christian god, he would have to believe in the Christian god.

Anyway…  I appreciate what the bigger theme of acceptance and understanding.  We could use a lot more of that in this world.
