Overview
Alice Tate, mother of two, with a marriage of 16 years, finds herself falling for the handsome sax player, Joe. Stricken with a backache, she consults Dr. Yang, an oriental herbalist who realizes that her problems are not related to her back, but in her mind and heart. Dr. Yang's magical herbs give Alice wondrous powers, taking her out of well-established rut.
This is another in a long line of solid efforts by Woody Allen. This one won’t go down as a classic but I enjoyed it very much. The movie is a great depiction of a woman that has really been asleep for much of her life and has no idea who she is. Allen brings a fresh touch to an old theme. I’m not a fan of Mia Farrow by any stretch of the imagination but I did hate her less in this film (especially when she was under the influence).
