I gave this indie movie a chance based on Roger Ebert’s glowing review of the film.  I agree with him that the movie is well-cast and that the characters seem nice and relatable.  That’s about where  – for me – the film kind of goes off the rails.  I thought it got off to a good start as we got to know the characters a bit and it had a nice indie flow.  When someone goes missing it feels like the director tried to build an urgency and a mystery that just doesn’t feel believable.  It seemed to aspire to be something like Blood Simple but it just didn’t get there.  And the end…. ugh.   What was that about?  Was the whole point about the bond between brother and sister?  I’ve seen this done better in a ton of other places, my favorite being The Skeleton Twins.
