Overview
On the rocky path to sobriety after a life-changing accident, John Callahan discovers the healing power of art, willing his injured hands into drawing hilarious, often controversial cartoons, which bring him a new lease on life.
What struck me first and foremost is just how good freaking good Joaquin Phoenix is. Then again, he is always amazing and so few people appreciate his work. The film itself was interesting in how the story of central character unfolded. I’ve always been a fan of people telling a story like this in two different timelines. There were also excellent efforts from Jonah Hill (I am generally not a fan), Jack Black and the (always amazing) Rooney Mara. The poster is completely misleading – this is not a rom-com.
