A Scene at the Sea

This movie was such a joy.  As you probably know, the film is about a couple of deaf teenagers that seem to be starting a relationship.  While there is sound in the movie, the dialog is sparse and the viewer does get a (very small) feel for what it might be like to be a deaf person in the relationship.  But even that description doesn’t feel like it does the film justice.  The movie is subtle with a capital “S”.  Few words are spoken, but we can completely see what is going on with the couple and the people in their orbit.  The way the story is told allows us to get a different point of view on a relationship that I can’t remember seeing in another film.  And the final scene – the hypnotic song and the visual are just tremendous together.
