Overview
Straitlaced Princeton University admissions officer Portia Nathan is caught off-guard when she makes a recruiting visit to an alternative high school overseen by her former classmate, the freewheeling John Pressman. Pressman has surmised that Jeremiah, his gifted yet very unconventional student, might well be the son that Portia secretly gave up for adoption many years ago.
This is a sweet film, and probably overlooked by many who were seeking out another mediocre rom-com. The first twenty minutes are painful, but then the movie has some pretty great character development. Fey and Rudd have fantastic chemistry, and it was pretty satisfying to see two really good actors (and a fantastic supporting cast) deliver a really good second half of the movie. Most importantly, I think they really stuck the landing. I thought that I had it all figured out, and… I didn’t.
