Overview
In the near future, a group of war journalists attempt to survive while reporting the truth as the United States stands on the brink of civil war.
The user reviews for this movie are both hilarious and sad. They generally go like this:
- “The marketing was misleading”. I don’t get this at all, but then again, I never watch trailers as they either show too much of the movie or make you think that it is something that it isn’t. If you complained about this, why? At the end of the day, aren’t you looking for a good movie?
- “The movie really isn’t about war”. Well, yeah. If you want a war movie, go find a war movie. This movie does show you the mindeset of a soldier, but I think that was more of a commentary on the mindset of certain Americans that just happen to be soldiers.
- “The movie is too political”. First of all, no it isn’t. If you want an example of a movie beating you over the head with something, check out “Don’t Look Up” (I agreed with the message in the movie, it was just too over-the-top). Second, if you think that it was too political, chances are the movie is talking to you directly. It doesn’t take a college degree to figure out who the president in the movie is in real life. It’s the same rhetoric that is currently dividing the country. The movie works well as a cautionary tale.
- “Photojournalists don’t act like that”. I don’t know if they do or they don’t. But would it really be a surprised if there was a lot of truth to it? They win awards for captures scenes of anguish, not for pictures of flowers.
- “They got details wrong (cameras, geography, etc). Yawn.
I think the genius of this movie is making points without beating you over the head with it. I found it interesting how the journalists tried hard to keep their integrity in place. I thought that everything about it was top-notch with the exception of some of the dialog.
