Overview
When reporter Jean Craddock interviews Bad Blake -- an alcoholic, seen-better-days country music legend -- they connect, and the hard-living crooner sees a possible saving grace in a life with Jean and her young son. But can he leave behind an existence playing in the shadow of Tommy, the upstart kid he once mentored?
This film is about an aging country star (played by a singing Jeff Bridges) whose life is falling apart. On the surface the movie should work – it is a touching story (and one that’s been told many times before) about a man who is slowly falling apart. The acting was solid, the setup was good… everything seemed to be in place for a great film. And it missed. Don’t get me wrong – it was still well worth the time but I never really felt a connection with the characters or the story. Maybe a little more despair at the beginning would have helped, although maybe that would have just ended up in a “Leaving Las Vegas” knockoff. Good movie but by no means great.
