Overview
Set in 1959, Diner shows how five young men resist their adulthood and seek refuge in their beloved Diner. The mundane, childish, and titillating details of their lives are shared. But the golden moments pass, and the men shoulder their responsibilities, leaving the Diner behind.
This movie is set in the 1950s and is a showcase for the struggles that seemed to plague men in their early 20s. The men are likable enough, but they are also pretty dense. This is clearly evident in their dealings with the women in their lives – at different times they men experienced lust, anger, frustration and apathy towards the women. While the men are the focus, the movie does a sneaky-good job at illustrating how hard the women also had it. The girls were also trying to figure it all out, and while doing so had to also navigate (almost) men in their lives.
