Overview
Ned is in the throes of a mid-life crisis. His work as a writer on an outrageous, semi-pornographic TV show is less than satisfying. His fifteen year old son has just told him he is gay and his eleven year old is afraid of, well pretty much everything. When his wife, Jeannie, moves her sick and embittered father from Detroit into their home in NY, it puts added stress on an already strained marriage. And when a sexy female co-worker puts the moves on Ned, the temptation sends him spiraling.
The problem with films about people in a miserable situation is that the audience is right there with them. The first half of this film was a tough watch, but as the movie got to where it was trying to go, it started to make sense. Hunt and Dennehy are easily the best part of this movie – there needs to be someone with some color to balance out Liev Schreiber. If there is one thing that I appreciated in this film it is that the characters didn’t dwell on mistakes. Sometimes the suffering from the mistakes is enough of a punishment.

My Review
The problem with films about people in a miserable situation is that the audience is right there with them.
