Racing legend Sonny Hayes is coaxed out of retirement to lead a struggling Formula 1 team—and mentor a young hotshot driver—while chasing one more chance at glory.
The film starts out ok enough – we get the standard “over-the-hill former star might try to set things right” theme. There is then some pedestrian back-and-forth between the old man and the kid, and we establish that the old man is wise. And then the film slowly drifts into melodramatic drivel. All of this is made worse with the constant narration from the announcer that dumbs down the technical aspect of the sport so that the masses can follow. And this is probably the worst part of the film – I followed what they were doing, but it wasn’t entertaining. From a racing perspective, Ford vs. Ferrari was way better.
