I think the premise (a man struggles to make new friends as an adult, and is a terrible person on top of it) is actually a really good one, and I can’t think of many films that tackle the idea of portraying the difficulty in making new friends as an adult (which I firmly believe is a very real thing).   I think the resolution was perfect as well.  The problem?  The hour in between is absolutely painful.  We see a man falling down, but that doesn’t make for a good watch.   As the movie goes on, he becomes less of a sympathetic figure, and not at all an interesting or funny one.
