Gates of Heaven

At the highest level this documentary is about pet funerals and the people associated with them.  You know, the people with the dead pets and the people that offer the burial service for said pets.  From this description you might expect this to be a bit of a freakshow and in a sense I guess it is.  As character after character are introduced one is more bizarre than the next.  In reading one of the reviews of this doc I read something that I think sums it up best: while this film isn’t sad it is very much about human loneliness.  And it isn’t just the pet owners – it is the people that work at the company (in their own really bizarre way).
