Overview
Mary is a good Christian girl who goes to a good Christian high school where she has good Christian friends and a perfect Christian boyfriend. Her life seems perfect, until the day that she finds out that her boyfriend may be gay — and that she’s pregnant.
One of the amusing things that happened to me as I was reading the review for this movie is that some people can’t see the forest from the trees. “This was obviously written by someone who has never set foot in a church”. Um, no. This had to have been written by someone that had in fact stepped in the church as someone who hadn’t drank the coolaid. If you are such a person, you know that there are a TON of Hilary Fayes out there. And if you read the news, you know there a TON of people that talk the talk and could not be bothered to walk the walk. In so much of the world today, it is more important to wear the Jesus badge.
Besides all of that, there is a lot to like in this movie. While it certainly bashes religious belief in general an bigotry in particular, it spends more time focusing on inclusion and being a decent person. While I wholeheartedly agreed with all of the themes… it isn’t necessarily a great watch. Even if you agree with the themes, these movies can be a bit heavy-handed at times. In that sense, it reminded me a bit of But I’m a Cheerleader. There are a few laughs, but….
