Overview
Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it's never too late to find love and follow your dreams.
This was a rather odd watch for me. While the movie is safe and comfortable and largely enjoyable, I couldn’t help but be amazed at how they seemingly acted like he had written all of these songs. The movie would have been compelling if he was the writer of all of these songs, but he was just a guy that came across them while trying to earn a living. It just didn’t add up, and thus it felt like a story that didn’t have the meat on the proverbial bone to be made into a movie. Also, while Kate Hudson is very good in this, the awards talk is ridiculous. This is Citizen Kane compared to her other works, but that isn’t saying much. Still, it was good to see her have something to work with.
