Imagine being forced to on a rather non-descript vacation with a likeable family.   Nothing much happens on the vacation, but everyone is pleasant and the father is doing his best to… well, something.  Most days are a slog, and there is the stereotypical (albeit half-hearted) attempt at a contest at the end.  When you get back from vacation, people will ask you about the vacation and you will just shrug.   Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Summer Rental.   I can’t believe that Carl Reiner made this completely uneventful and unnecessary film.  I recently saw the John Candy documentary – one of the themes of the doc was that he had a hard time saying now.  I completely get it now.
