Overview
A woman during the Second World War opens her heart to an evacuee after initially resolving to be rid of him.
After flipping through some of the reviews I am a little surprised that so many people treated this movie as if it was a breezy novel that one reads on the beach while on vacation. Sure, we’ve seen some of this before – a curmudgeon is placed in a situation where her dour outlook on life is challenged. The film does an amazing job at peeling back the layers of the woman’s life. Too often these movies end up with a hallmark channel feel to them but I didn’t get that here, probably because of the last act was delivered. Also, Gemma Arterton is nothing short of incredible in this movie as her character bore the weight of the ever-changing emotions. Sometimes it just feels good to watch be watching a movie – I felt this way during this film.
