Overview
While caring for her brother along with her audacious mother, a teenager strikes up an unlikely friendship with an eccentric activist who is protesting one of the most landmark medical cases of all time.
The description of this movie doesn’t lie: it is a coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of upcoming (and current) grief. Where this movie is unique is that it threads the needle in what it is trying to accomplish. We’ve seen this movie dozens of times before, but this movie seems to bring a fresh take on the themes. Yes, the movie is partly about grief, but it is never without hope. It doesn’t beat you over the head with the grief and there is no melodramatic music playing in the background. In other words, it isn’t a Hallmark movie. It also helps that the leads are absolutely fantastic.
