I don’t know if people are going to appreciate this film for all that it is. While there wasn’t a ton happening on the screen, there is sooooo much happening. The viewer is brought on a journey where they get to explore the characters as they are today and – if they are willing to work a little bit – the characters they were as children. There is such a delicate balance to allow all of the various themes to breath – it really was impressive how they pulled it off as going too far into any one area (the silly characters come to mind) would have hurt the film. Of course, at the heart of this movie are the three leads. I had no idea that Michael Cera or Hannah Gross had those kind of chops. The film also has a wonderfully raw indie feel to it. At times (especially in the beginning) it is very unconventional, but it does to effortlessly. It is has a quirky and unpolished feel to it, but it all feels so organic. Easily one of my favorite movies of the year.
