I think this film is good but isn’t THAT good. American Idol used to be a guilty pleasure of mine and often times I found myself enamored with the acoustic singer-songwriters. Over time I came to realize that I was more attracted to the style than the substance. I found a bit of that with this film – combine and awful sickness with a sympathetic central character and you’ve got bonus audience points right from the start. In that sense it kind of reminds me of other overrated films such as The Blind Side.
