One of the aspects of art that I appreciate the most is how it appeals to us individually.  For example, musicians will often not comment on the meanings of songs because they want the song to be personal to the listener.  I have read a lot of reviews about this movie, and I think it is fair to say that this movie is one that is open to interpretation.   You could have knocked me over with a feather during the opening scenes where the boy found himself aroused by an older woman.  I have had those same experiences, and I know that they stay with you for a lifetime.  I think where I disagree with some of the reviews is that this was a unique love affair. I believe that she loved him with every fiber of her being (obviously), but his love for her was tied to those experiences he had as a boy, and I think the final scene is the proof.   This is easily on of my favorite movies of all time.
