It took me a little bit to get into this film.  I knew that the supremely-talented Alice Wu wrote this movie and I could hear her saying the lines through the lead.  Of course, the lead is in high school and – as with so many other films set with characters of that age – it doesn’t feel authentic.  Anyway, putting that aside this is really a marvelous movie.  It feels like a lot of other movies that came before it because of the various themes but it managed to bring them all together that made the sum much different than the parts.  In a weird kind of way seeing the three leads playing off of each other reminded me of “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly”.  The last ten minutes are magnificent and the film ends in a way that avoids clichés and fits the stories.
