Overview
All Bindu needs to test out of high school is $53.75—by seventh period. Then maybe she can convince her mom to move the family back to India and leave her annoying new American stepdad behind in the US. One of the winning titles of Mark and Jay Duplass’ Campaign to find America’s Next Generation of Indie Filmmakers.
This is another movie whose genre (a non-Caucasian teen struggles to fit in) has been done much, much better in the last year or two (The Half of It comes to mind). It’s hard enough to look past the portrayal of high school life that has never existed anywhere. The story and the dialog were just completely disjointed. It may have worked better if tried to be more of a comedy or if it went a bit darker. The lead is excellent but this was a long 90 minutes.
