Overview
When she learns she's in danger of losing her visa status and being deported, overbearing book editor Margaret Tate forces her put-upon assistant, Andrew Paxton, to marry her.
I have it in my head that I’ve always liked Sandra Bullock. What’s not to like? But then I take a minute and think about the movies she has been in and I can’t really think of any movies of hers that I really loved. The Blind Side was a complete disaster. Gravity was alright but I think it was a bit overrated. For the first hour of this movie she has almost nothing to work with. Don’t get me wrong – that is still 100x better than the sassy and condescending (and fictional!) character that she played in The Blind Side. It wasn’t until the end that she could stretch out a bit and show some chops.
While this movie has a fantastic supporting cast (and thankfully they didn’t ham it up too much with Betty White) it is definitely all about Ryan Reynolds. He represents the emotional core of the movie and overall he did a good job with it. While there are some laughs at the beginning the movie is at its best when it is a straight-ahead drama. if you like rom coms you could definitely do worse.
