Overview
Ingrid and Martha were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.
The fact that this film is good is a testament to Swinton and Moore. I get some of the criticisms of this film, but at the watching these two acting legends work together was mesmerizing. I think the key to the film was the stoic view that Swinton’s character had towards death. In a weird kind of way, it allowed the movie to be uplifting rather than sad. In that sense, I was moved.
